Taking a uniformed officer with me, I drove down to the station, parked the vehicle and walked into the goods yard. A crowd had gathered and were looking in horror at the remains of a body lying partly under the wheels of one of a line of goods wagons, which I learned had been in the process of being shunted to a far part of the goods yard when the accident had happened.

As a young boy David McCue witnessed the bombing of the north of England in 1940. He attended grammar school and later worked as a soldier in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, Eritrea and Egypt. Eventually he returned to Africa as a police officer, serving in the Northern Rhodesia Police Force. His specialism in sudden, suspicious and unnatural deaths earned him the nickname "the bodies man”.

The Bodies Man explores a number of interesting and sometimes upsetting cases that he encountered during his career and is set against the backdrop of a turbulent Northern Rhodesia on its way to becoming self-governing Zambia.
