About Us

The SilverWood Team

At SilverWood we like to build friendly and long-standing relationships with our authors, and we're increasingly selective about the manuscripts we take on...

This means you can be reassured that if we've opted to work with you, your manuscript has been thoroughly reviewed and is, in our opinion, ready for publication.

The small size of our specialist team means we can get to know you and your project in detail, and offer support that's expressly tailored to your aims for your book. Throughout your association with us you'll retain consistent and reliable contact with your own publishing assistant, and the wider team up to the level of publishing director. If you'd like to have a chat about your book, do book a Discovery Call here

Helen Hart

Publishing Director
Helen oversees all aspects of SilverWood’s publishing projects, teaming you with the publishing assistant who is the best fit for you, and ensuring you have a high quality book to make you proud.

Committed to SilverWood’s standards of excellence, Helen is a long-standing Partner Member of The Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi) and a corporate subscriber to the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). She has taken CIEP courses in proofreading and copy-editing, recently passing Proofreading Headway, so you can be confident she’ll cross your 't’s, dot your 'i’s, and more besides.

She’s been a published author since 1999 (Scholastic, Virgin Books, Oxford University Press and HarperCollins) so she understands the varied life of a writer and cares about what matters to you on a creative level.

Catherine Blom-Smith

Publishing Team Leader
Catherine loves feeling authors’ enthusiasm for their projects so will help to ensure your vision for your book becomes reality. As SilverWood team leader, Catherine supervises the publishing team, and supports new team members as they undertake a tried, tested and rigorously reviewed in-house training process. She consolidates this by closely overseeing trainees during the first 18 months to ensure deep and wide knowledge of book production and distribution. Catherine also works directly with her own portfolio of authors. Having completed the CIEP Proofreading Headway course, she has a sharp eye for spelling and grammar, so she’ll help to ensure your manuscript is the best it can be before it’s published. She completed a BA (Hons) degree and a Master of Arts in English Literature at the University of Bristol. Book a Discovery Call with Catherine here.

Enya Holland

Publishing Assistant
Enya has a special interest in digital publishing and finding the best ways to bring your print book to new audiences on digital platforms while meeting the highest industry standards. She also loves reading incoming submissions and will enjoy offering thoughtful feedback on your manuscript, whether you opt for a Reader’s Report or our Manuscript Feedback service. Enya has a background in historical research, achieving an MA in Early Modern History from the University of York. She enjoys working on complex layouts, from non-fiction to children’s books, and particularly likes the family history genre. Outside of work, Enya has volunteered her time with two archives and a census project, using the same strong attention to detail that she will bring to managing your project, to ensure faithful digitisation of records. Alice van Raalte

Publishing Assistant
Alice understands the personal care you expect for your book project and enjoys helping newly-published authors navigate the world of self-publishing. She joined SilverWood Books after achieving a First Class (Hons) degree in English at Bournemouth University. Alice brings her passion for publishing to your project; this primarily stems from working at her university’s in-house publishing company in her final year, when she also won the Short Story Student Prize for Fresher Publishing 2018. In her role as a publishing assistant at SilverWood Books she particularly enjoys working on non-fiction books, with a special interest in health and wellbeing and feminist writing.
