Desmond Tucker is a born-and-bred Bristolian. Bedminster Boy is his story, but also the story of Bristol, a city that has seen many changes since Desmond’s birth in 1929.
From his childhood during the Second World War to his work at a tour guide to his ministry at Saint Michael-on-the-Mount Church, Desmond’s autobiography captures a snapshot of Bristol throughout the twentieth century.
The city today is very different to the one he was born in, but Desmond truly is, and always will be, a Bedminster Boy.
Desmond Tucker was born in 1929 and has lived in Bristol all his life, apart from a few years in Nailsea during the Second World War and a period of national service in Germany. After working as a tourist guide for many years, Desmond developed a vocation to the ministry in the Church of England and took charge of the Saint Michael-on-the-Mount Church in central Bristol in 1985.
Desmond retired at the age of sixty-five in 1994 and now lives in Redland.
