Fees would vary according to the complexity of the text and the condition of the manuscript, or whether English is the writer's first language. Text with academic, legal or medical content that needs a high level of fact-checking and understanding of terminology will be charged at a higher rate than fiction. We prefer to see your manuscript so we can assess the extent of the work involved and give you an accurate estimate (and sometimes we'll copy-edit a page or two to demonstrate the attention to detail required for professional publication). The Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders is a good source of information on good practice and guideline rates.
