Fatal Tears is a historic adventure novel set in the inter-war period. Its protagonist, Rupert Winfield, is an expert on Egypt who is working as a tour guide on the Nile. He gets to know some of the party he is guiding, including the war-wounded doctor Stephen Hopkins, to whom Rupert is strongly attracted.
Winfield soon realises that Khufu, the boat he works on, is involved in a scheme to struggle diamonds into Germany, where the Nazi party is gaining strength. When two different people die mysteriously, Winfield must assist Major Ashdown from Military Intelligence to find a way to prevent the diamonds from reaching Germany and funding the Nazi Party.
Stuart Fifield was born in Islington, North London and grew up in Uganda and Kenya, where his father was a Civil Servant. Following Kenyan independence, the family moved first to the Seychelles, then to Australia and finally to South Africa, before returning to the United Kingdom in 1990. Travelling during his childhood has fostered a life-long love of travel, which continues to this day.
Stuart finished his education in South Africa and obtained a Master of Music degree from the South African College of Music, University of Cape Town. He followed a career as a concert soloist, in oratorio and opera, singing baritone repertoire. He also studied the clarinet and today both plays in and conducts various wind bands. He is a retired Music teacher, who also taught English, History and Drama.
He lives with his partner in East Sussex, and divides his time between writing, performing and travelling.
