"Finding Ruby is an absorbing mystery story, a perfectly crafted thriller. It kept me reading into the night. I can't wait for the next book in the series."
– Chez Maxima Blog
"In Finding Ruby, the reader is introduced to Nell Montague. I warmed to her immediately and instantly felt sympathy for her in the difficult situations in which she finds herself. The images Higgins creates are incredibly haunting and I wanted to know why Nell saw them. I was intrigued the whole way through.
Through Finding Ruby, Higgins touches upon several themes including domestic violence, grief and homosexuality. These issues are portrayed incredibly realistically and I felt able to experience the feelings as the characters did.
As Finding Ruby reaches its conclusion there are several moments of tension and I was gripped to the edge of my seat wanting to know what would happen.”
– Kate, Portable Magic
"This was such a gripping novella. The author portrayed the story and characters very well… I couldn’t put it down and devoured it in one sitting. This was an absolute page turner. I look forward to reading more from J A Higgins especially the sequel.”
– Jolene, Babydolls and Razorblades
"I loved the blurb it grabbed me immediately as did the great cover design. I have to say from the outset I was fully invested in the story and where it would lead. We are taken an emotional, dark and frightened journey that sees a shift in power. I hope there will be more books. A slow burning dark mystery that I really liked.”
– Kayleigh Louise, Cooking the Books Review
"I liked the shadows in the book as the author played with light and dark shades of human, showing me different aspects alternately. The characters were flawed yet found strength to take the right decisions. I liked Nell and Maxine in their own way. The spirits raised the right amount of spookiness and pathos in me.”

"WOW!! What can I say??!!!!
This book had me gripped from the minute I picked it up to the Minute I put it down (I actually stayed up late just to finish it). I couldn’t this book down!!!
This book is very well written, lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing (which is what had me gripped,) just when you thought you knew everything another layer of shock and intrigue happened!!”
– Little Mrs Reader
"I enjoyed reading Finding Ruby, I love thrillers and mystery books but this one was very different to anything I have read before.
There is a slight paranormal feel to it which did add a unique twist.”
– Dash Fans Book Reviews
"Finding Ruby is well written. I felt drawn into the story fairly early on and once the author had my attention that was it, I knew that the author would refuse to let me reclaim my attention until the end of the story. The author uses such vivid and powerful descriptions that I felt as though I was part of the story myself. I found that I was so in tune with Nell to the extent that I felt myself going through every emotion that she did.
Reading Finding Ruby felt like being on an at times scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. Just when you thought that you could catch your breath and gather your thoughts, then off the action would go again.
In short, Finding Ruby was definitely an interesting read, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.”

"I absolutely believed the struggles of this central character and was cheering her on all the way as she fought to break free from both her past and present demons.
If you’re looking for a bit of escapism with enough tension and intrigue to keep you reading late into the night, I’d highly recommend Finding Ruby as your next read.”
– Rebecca Hills, The Overdue Book Review
"This story is full of suspense, twists and turns, terror, and tragedy. It was a very good read and the characters are colourful, dangerous, and interesting. This story drew my attention in and held it for the entire read. I enjoyed this story, but it left me with some questions. This was my first story by J A Higgins and really enjoyed the writing and the story. It left me wanting more.”
– Sassy Redhead Book Reviews
"From the creepy yet enthralling blurb, to the haunting book cover design, from the outset I could not wait to get stuck in to this read! This book just as I hoped grabbed me from the start and did not let go! A tale of involving a missing child is a plot arc that would hook anyone in the thriller/horror genre, it is just a concept already filled with horror and tension and the way this story was written with a twist on the paranormal it was made so terrifyingly dark yet engaging it made a fantastic read!
"…I could not put this book down, its short chapters really ebbed up the pace and in turn the tension surrounding this read, there were twists and turns galore! I was left a bit breathless in parts!
"I am so happy this is marketed as the first in the "Nell Montague series" as it means I have more to look forward to not only from the author but also from this great character and I for one cannot wait!”
– Books and Emma
"The dreams described throughout the book, made the plot extremely unpredictable. At no point could I tell you how the ending was going to play out. I’m giving no spoilers away but I will say that this is definitely worth a read.
This is a really easy book to rate, this is a five star book which I couldn’t put down. I cannot wait for the next instalment of Nell Montague.”
– Little Miss Book Lover 87
"There are plenty of flawed, original characters who, together with the mystery elements help keep you turning the pages. I suspect this is going to be the first in a new series and I look forward to reading more about the exploits of Nell, Maxine and Leon in future and to discover just what Will is going to do next!”
– Splashes Into Books
"I was hooked by the plot line and couldn’t wait to see how it would all end. I had read the whole thing in just a few hours and I didn’t want to put it down.
There are a few bits at the start of the book that may not be easy to read for all but they are needed to set the scene of the story and to give the background to the main character, Nell – and I loved seeing how Nell developed in the story and her personality and strength grew.”
