How can the wildness of Highland Scotland give voice to the words of the Psalms? That’s a question that is ever present in
Landscapes of Grace.
Exploring this, we hear the Psalms enfolded and wrapped in the colours and contours of Highland Scotland. Crags, lochs, rivers, and moors enhance the stories, prayers, and poetry of this book and we hear afresh the words of the Psalms as if to ourselves.
Are there not times when we stop and rest awhile and gaze on the natural beauty of our world? It is often on these days we are quietened by a deep wonder of God and a longing for his presence.
Hearing the voice of the Psalms we awake to the surprise of God’s grace and the hope this brings.
David Clark was Principal Teacher of Geography at Kelso High School before training as a minister of religion. He served as a Church of Scotland minister in Airdrie and Dundee and in-between these appointments he worked as the general director of Scripture Union Scotland. More widely he continues to be involved in supporting theological education in South India. David is married to Maureen. They live with their Golden Retriever dog, Ailsa, in Fife in the coastal village of St Monans. He enjoys cycling, wild water swimming, and walking.
Katy Emslie-Smith grew up in Scotland, having spent her early childhood in mountainous Lesotho. She has worked as a general practitioner in the city of Dundee for many years, and continues to teach medicine there. Katy is part of the Steeple Church in Dundee where David Clark was minister for some time. She is married with three adult children. Katy loves Scotland’s wild places and enjoys the benefits of living by the sea as a recent convert to cold water swimming.
