Alex Hebdon lives near Hull and has always been fascinated by the law and the criminal justice system. He served in the Humberside Police for thirty years before retiring as a sergeant in 2017. He specialised in the video interviewing of children and other vulnerable victims and witnesses, and used his experience to train other officers.

During his service with the police, Alex was involved in several serious and complex investigations, and has given evidence in court on numerous occasions. He always wanted to observe a trial right the way through, something which was not possible as a police witness. Like a lot of people, he was intrigued by the archaic rituals and procedures of a crown court and was curious about their origins.

Having spent a third of his career working in the Goole area, Alex took a close interest in a murder case which happened in a quiet East Yorkshire village in the area he used to cover. It was such an unusual and interesting case that, having observed the whole trial at Hull Crown Court, he felt compelled to write this book.
